![]() ![]() Alpha Delta Theta is a group of women whose main goal is to promote the camaraderie of science majors on campus while preparing our members for a lifetime of professionalism in the health field. Our Alpha Iota chapter here at the Saint Joseph's University was founded in 1967. We achieve this through many fellowship events such as Progressive Dinner, Restaurant Outings, Secret Santa, Ice Skating, Brother Dates, and a Spring Formal. We also value our close-knit family atmosphere among our members. We achieve this through annual service events such as Soup Kitchen, Blood Drives, Senior Home, Tent City, Pancakes for Pups, Boo at the Zoo, Vagina Monologues, etc. Our main purpose as an organization is to allow members the chance to develop leadership skills through volunteer opportunities in the chapter, campus, community, and national levels. As of 2016, we have 71 active, graduate, and associate brothers.Īs a service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega welcomes all students-regardless of gender, color, religion, sexual orientation, course of study, or other fraternal affiliations. Since then our chapter has blossomed into what it has become now. Our specific chapter, Alpha Gamma Iota, on the Saint Joseph's University campus was founded in Maby 23 founders. Famous American leaders have even left their mark in Alpha Phi Omega such as John F. ![]() It was founded in 1925 by a young man named Frank Reed Horton at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. ![]() Situated at the corner of University Boulevard and Airline Road, the garden is comprised of individual stone markers for each fraternity and sorority chapter that is a member of each council, signifying the enduring impact these organizations have made on the University.Alpha Phi Omega is a national co-ed service fraternity, deeply rooted in the teachings of the Boy Scouts of America. ![]() To recognize their contributions and ensure a lasting legacy for generations of SMU students to come, SMU has created a garden in honor of the Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council. The presence of these two Greek governing councils at SMU has been an important aspect of the University’s support for our diverse student body. Both councils continue to thrive on the SMU campus and have been a driving force for all of the student body by breaking down barriers and fostering leadership opportunities throughout the institution. The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) was founded in 1930 and established at SMU in 1986, and the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) was founded in 1998 and established at SMU in 2000. The Council was organized as a national coordinating body in May 1930 at Howard University (Washington, DC). The NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions. NPHC organizations are historically Black Greek lettered fraternities and sororities. SMU currently recognizes four (3) active NPHC chapters:ĭelta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated is currently composed of nine (9) International Greek letter Sororities and Fraternities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. "Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations." ![]()
